I recommend that parents plan their child’s first visit to the dentist when they are 2.5 to 3 years old. At this age, children already have all 20 milk teeth in their mouth which makes it an ideal time to set the course for a future without caries. It takes another 2-3 years until the first examination in kindergarten and un­fortuna­tely, the first holes may have already been made by then. My primary concern here is to advise parents on their children’s diet and teeth-cleaning habits. Secondly, the child should have a first positive experience with their dentist and thus be able to begin a fear-free dental future.
